It may have been a sunny Saturday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium but the Regina Thunder were lights out in their 23-7 win over the Saskatoon Hilltops.

Thunder DB Justin McKerracher led the way with three interceptions.

For the second consecutive season, the Thunder swept the two game series with the Hilltops and captured the Shrine Bowl once again.

After gaining an early lead with a 34 yard field goal from Erik Maximuik in the first quarter, the Thunder would increase their lead to ten early in the second when McKerracher stepped in front of a Hilltop receiver and returned his first interception of the afternoon back into the endzone.

Ife Adebogun who add a rushing touchdown for Regina, who also scored three times when the Hilltops gave up a safety.

After the game McKerracher said the defence made some adjustments leading up to the second straight encounter with their provincial rivals.

“We emphasize tackling the whole week, and we switched a couple coverages, and we played a lot of man, and we rotated that so it was really good.”

The first of McKerracher’s three interceptions proved to the be the difference maker, he said he just reacted to the play.

“I played falcon, I dropped deep, cut in front of the receiver and took it home.”

Regina moves to 5-0 on the season and they will be in action next week when they meet the Winnipeg Rifles on Sunday, September 25.
